Surf Kit

A solid housing that is water tight and that can handle the power of big waves is extremely important. I use SPL based out of San Diego, but there are a couple brands out there that specialize in surf housings. The thing to note is that these housings are not dive housings. They're typically only rated for 20 to 40 feet, but they will handle large waves. As SPL claims "All housings made by SPL can handle any size surf you have the nuts to swim into."

In terms of lenses I'm partial to using a fixed 50mm and a 135mm for longer images. To shoot Mavericks and most of my onshore photography I use a 500mm f/4 or a 70-200mm f/2.8.
